Preparing the MP3 Module

Mp3 is a popular file type for playing back music or sound effects. The mp3 microSD module reads the mp3 music files from a microSD card and then can play it out loud through a speaker or audio jack module. Before we actually begin creating the music player, let’s upload our mp3 files to the microSD card.

For this tutorial we’ll be using some sample music files.

Download Sample Music

On your computer, go to where you saved the sample music folder and extract it by right clicking it, then click “Extract All”.

Here’s how the inside of the folder will look like.

NOTE: All the mp3 file names need to be 4 digit numbers. For example, “0001”, then “0002”, so on… in order for the audio files to play properly.

Now let’s insert our microSD card into the computer. If your computer doesn’t have a microSD card slot, no worries! There’s an included adapter in case your computer has a slot for normal sized SD cards.

Using the adapter: To use the adapter insert the microSD card into the adapter socket, and make sure the lock slider is pushed up. To use the adapter insert the microSD card into the adapter socket, and make sure the lock slider is pushed up.

Now click and drag the mp3 files from the “sample music” folder to the SD card.

Windows Users: Now click “Eject” under “Drive Tools”. Then when the microSD card’s icon disappears, remove the card from the slot.

Mac Users: In the sidebar of the Finder window, select the card, then choose File > Eject. After the card’s icon disappears from the sidebar, remove the card from the slot.

Now insert the microSD card into the mp3 module until it clicks into place.
