Installing the Arduino IDE

The device that acts as the brain of the project is the Arduino Nano microcontroller. It’s a little microcontroller board that can be programmed to perform different tasks. The Arduino IDE is the software we’ll use to write programs and upload them to our board to give life to the music player. This guide will walk you through downloading the Arduino IDE and setting it up with your Music Player Kit.

Windows Setup

First lets download the Arduino IDE:

Click Here to Go Get the Latest Arduino IDE

Choose the version of the IDE that corresponds to your computer.

No worries! The Arduino IDE is constantly being updated with time. If you see a new version, that most likely means it’s been updated and the screenshot above doesn’t represent the latest version. Download the version available for your platform.

You’ll be taken to this page. Download the installer by clicking “Just Download”.

Run the installer once it’s finished downloading.

Here you’ll see the drivers that’ll be installed. You can just leave the default values and hit “Next”.

Here you can choose the installation directory. We recommend leaving it at the default option and then hit “Install”

The Arduino IDE will begin installing and once completed. You can hit “Close”.

Congrats! You installed the Arduino IDE. Time to open it and see what it has.

Mac Setup

First lets download the Arduino IDE:

Click Here to Go Get the Latest Arduino IDE

Download the Mac OS version.

You’ll be taken to this page. Download the installer by clicking “Just Download”.

Run the installer once it’s finished downloading.

No worries! The Arduino IDE is constantly being updated with time. If you see a new version, that most likely means it’s been updated and the screenshot above doesn’t represent the latest version. Download the version available for your platform.

The downloaded file will be in a ZIP format. If you downloaded the file through Safari, it’ll automatically be extracted for you. If you are using a different browser, you need to extract the downloaded ZIP file manually.

Go ahead and copy the Arduino Application bundle into your Mac’s Applications folder (or anywhere else is fine).

Congrats! You installed the Arduino IDE. Time to open it and see what it has.
